Types of Behaviour

Note:

  • A behaviour production unit (BPU) is an evolved psychological mechanism for producing an optimized response to a cue, situation or goal.
  • A Cue is a signal of some evolutionarily salient state or variable (environmental or physiological)

Reflexive - (Startle, Withdrawal)

A class of BPUs and behaviours triggered by a cue and designed to attain a physiological end-state.

Instinctual - (Build Nest)

A class of BPUs and behaviours triggered by a cue and designed to attain a situational end-state.

Exploratory - (Environmental, reconnaissance)

Behaviour produced by a class of BPUs triggered by default and designed to attain an aptitudinal end-state through reactive control.

Driven - (Nutrient quest, mate search)

A class of BPUs and behaviours triggered by an indicator and designed to achieve a physiological end-state.

Emotional - (Submission, complete for status)

A class of BPUs and behaviours triggered by an indicator and designed to achieve a situational end-state.

Playful - (Object play, pretend hunting)

A class of BPUs and behaviour triggered by default and designed to achieve an aptitudinal end-state through motivated control.

Planned
